CHRISTMAS IS COMING! CHRISTMAS IS COMING! It’s seriously coming in two days and I haven’t even wrapped one gift yet. My goal this year was to make something for everyone and to my surprise, and amazement, I actually completed this task!! However, it did not come without a fair amount of procrastination, blood, sweat, and tears. (LOL)
Why is it that whenever you’re trying to make something for someone else, everything seem to go completely WRONG. Am I the only one that this happens to?! I’ve never used my seam ripper more in my entire life than I did this past week. I knew I should have gotten a head start on my Christmas making/sewing. I realize even more now that I will be starting in AUGUST next year rather than the week before. But I somehow managed to complete 6 sets of earrings, 6 wall weaves, 3 pajama pants, 3 waterfall raglans, and 2 boat tees. Granted, I did have 3 days of which I normally don’t so that helped. A lot.
Tomorrow we are celebrating Christmas Eve with my family so I was doing a lot of treat making today! I wasn’t planning on writing a post this week, but I thought this would be a fun one with recipes for your next holiday party. (New Year’s is still around the corner.) These are my top 3 go-to EAAAASSSYYY recipes that I take to every party! They are a hit every time and seem to impress people when they taste them. Here we go!
CRANBERRY DELIGHT DIP
This is one of those recipes that I don’t even remember where I got it from! I know I was at a party and some lady and I guessed what the ingredients were and then whatever I make was birthed! It’s gotten a lot of tweaks over the past few years, but also a lot of compliments. You will need:
1 bag of fresh cranberries
1/2 cup of sugar
28-24oz of apricot jam
1/2 cup of pecans
8oz of cream cheese
1.) Preheat oven to 350. Rinse your cranberries and do NO dry them. Dump them in a 9X13 inch pan and pour the sugar over cranberries and mix together.
2.) Cover pan with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
3.) Mash the cranberries with a spoon to make sure they’re all popped and then mix the apricot jam in with the cranberries.
4.) Sprinkle pecans on top and you’re done! I like to serve mine over a softened block of cream cheese or I will use whipped cream cheese and spread it over the bottom of smaller pan and pour the cranberry mixture on top. It’s up to you and what you feel like doing that day. I serve it as a dip with Ritz crackers. It’s a crowd favorite for sure!
My mom use to make these growing up and they are the best salty & sweat snack!! Eating a couple is never enough- you have to eat them by the handful! You will need:
Mini Pretzel Twists
I like to use white chocolate wafers because it’s a lot easier and this year I found white ones with red & green speckles! SO CUTE. I’ve also used red & green wafers and alternated the M&M colors on them but it does take a little more effort and it cost a little more too.
1.) Preheat oven to 350. Lay out the pretzels on a cookie sheet and place a chocolate wafer on top of each one.
2.) Bake them for 3-4 minutes until they seem to be melting. They will get really shiny and slouchy, but you don’t want them to get too melty and start running down the pretzel.
3.) Immediately start placing M&Ms on top of the chocolate wafer. I would do this as quickly as possible so the wafers do not harden again. And it’s okay to apply slight pressure when pushing them down. It’s that easy! I told you these recipes wouldn’t be hard.
THE MOST IMPRESSIVE HOT COCOA EVER
Making a good cup of hot chocolate is as much an art form as making a good cup of coffee is. It’s something special to share with someone and is not meant to drink alone. My best friend, Arianna, made the most incredible cup of hot chocolate for me while we sat, talked, and watched a movie. It’s one of my favorite memories of us together. She started rattling off all these ingredients that she put in it and I couldn’t believe that any of those were even options! I never thought hot cocoa could get better. She guesses on the ingredients every time and it’s always perfect. However, I like to follow a recipe so I made one for myself based off her ingredients and love to invite others over and share this masterpiece with them. Every time I drink this hot cocoa I feel the love of my friend. You will need:
2 servings of Swiss Miss
1 heaping teaspoon Nutella
1/8 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
12oz of Water
4 oz of Milk
1.) Pour water, milk, & Swiss Miss into sauce pan. Mix together over medium heat.
2.) Add 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon.
3.) Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
4.) You will want to make sure the mixture is getting warm before adding a heaping teaspoon of Nutella. The Nutella needs the heat to melt.
Once the mixture comes to a boil it’s done! I recommend NOT taking your eyes off the cocoa or walking away from it. When it starts to boil, it boils FAST and overflows because it becomes so bubbly. I promise you this is the worst mess you will ever try to clean up. I know from experience.
PRO TIP: If you’re going to add whipped cream, put a layer of marshmallows down first. It keeps the whipped cream from melting as fast so you can enjoy it longer. 🙂
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas! Let me know if you try these recipes and enjoy them as much as I do! 🙂
